Ze staan bekend voor hun minimale expressie en hun zachte gelaatsuitdrukking. Ook bekend om hun zwarte of donkerbuin gepolijste gezichten. Het Dan volk bevolkt delen van Liberie en Ivoorkust sinds de 8ste eeuw voor Christus. Maskers van het Dan volk zijn gemaakt uit hard hout. Het masker is bedekt met donker raffia haar. Tangkagle betekent iets als dansen, mimme maskerade. Het masker heeft zowel menselijke als dierlijke kenmerken.
